Mother Nature Delays Three Features until June 27

Postby martinfan » Mon Jun 22, 2015 6:48 pm

Sparks will fly with eight features scheduled for the R&B Company’s fireworks night on June 27 as three features were postponed Saturday night as rain fell on the track.

Four features were made up from the previous week including the WTCA Super Streets, Dickies Restaurant 600 Open Sprints, Walmart Thunder Stocks, and Bane-Welker Cyber Stocks.

Michael Clark returned to his winning ways as he claimed the win in the WTCA Super Street feature to start the evening’s night of racing. He was able to fend off Roger Duszynski who attempted a last lap pass. Clark’s margin of victory was merely 0.12 seconds. Calvin Peek, Jr. ended up in the third running position.

David Short, who battled Clark for the lead early in the first race and cut a right front tire after making contact, won the second Super Street feature on the evening. Peek, Jr. ended up second with Duszynski finishing third.

The Dickies Restaurant 600 Open Sprints found a repeat winner in the make-up feature. Eric Saunders started fourth in the contest and made it to the lead by the halfway point in the race. He battled with last year’s champion Billy Cribbs for the lead. Cribbs claimed the second spot while Dylan Woodling found himself on the podium for the first time this season in the division.

John Rhoads had a close call on the last lap of the Walmart Thunder Stocks feature when a lapped car nearly trapped Rhoads from an oncoming Jim Henson. The two have been in these scenarios all season long, but Rhoads was able to overcome the obstacle for another win on the season. Henson came home second while Derek Danley found his first podium finish this season in third.

Kirby Trent returned to Victory Lane Saturday night with a win in the Bane-Welker Cyber Stock division. It was hard-fought as Trent found himself behind Mark Toney battling for the top spot throughout a good portion of the race. A green-white-checkered situation to determine the winner found Trent behind Aaron Day, but Day experienced mechanical problems. Trent capitalized on Day’s misfortune while Loren Swanson returned to the podium with a second place finish. Harley Kay Sutton got her first top-three finish Saturday night.

The last feature of the night was the Swan Lake Resort UMP Modifieds with Todd Sherman emerging as the victor. He used the top of the racing groove to get by drivers like Jamie Lomax, Zeke McKenzie, and Bradley Jameson. Lomax was leading on lap 13 when he and Sherman fought side-by-side for position. Sherman claimed the lead and kept the position until the end of the 20-lap feature. Lomax claimed second and Randy Lines snuck into the third spot. Lines also used the top groove of the track to gain position.

Rain fell on the track as the Walmart Thunder Stocks began the feature. That feature will be made up on Saturday, June 27 along with the Bane-Welker Cyber Stocks and Dickies Restaurant 600 Open Sprints. A regular night of racing will follow.

Until then, join the Playground of Power crew and drivers in the Team VW Audi 410 Open Sprints and the Dickies Restaurant 600 Open Sprints for Open Wheel Wednesday on Wednesday, June 24.

Gates for both nights of racing will open at 4 p.m. Hot laps will start at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. ET. For ticket and pit pass prices, visit www.plymouthspeedway.net.
