MANNIA MOTORS TO
ANOTHER SOUTH BEND WIN

Cool weather brought fast times and a lot of action at the South Bend Motor
Speedway on Friday night. Several cautions in the Heat events forced
drivers to piece cars back together for the features.

In the Sportsman Late Model Feature, Chuck Hall led the field around at the
green staying out front for the first 5 laps. Behind him, Lou Stremme and
Rich Nyari battled to get by with Nyari moving out front on lap 6. Stremme
also passed Hall and challenged for the lead, taking over on lap 12. Dave
Mannia started the race at the back of the pack and drove the high line to
the front challenging and leading the final two laps for his 3rd victory of
the season. Stremme held off Mike Verduin for 2nd followed by Nyari, Bob
Bean, Paul Scott, Charlie Hanna, Kevin Clash and Bob Golubski in the top
10. Billy Rutt took the lead away from Kenny Martsoff on lap 5 of the
Sportsman "B" event and went on for the win. Chuck Martin, Scott
Fairchild, Andy Lidecker and Jason Newgent rounded out the top 5.

17 cars took the green in the Mini Stock 25 lap Main. Kevin Davis was the
early leader with Derek Davis passing on lap 10. Jim Newman then made his
way to the front taking over the top spot on lap 14 followed closely by Jim
Cauffman. A late race caution bunched the field up for a two lap dash to
the finish. Cauffman challenged but had to settle for 2nd as Newman took
the checker. Paul Mester, Rich Hensley and Brian Lindsey finished in the
top 5 with 6th- 10th going to Dale Olivier, Sr., Tom Burke, Ricky Stagen,
Derek Davis and Chad Lindsey.

The Thunder Car Feature went for 20 laps with John Henderson leading the
first 2 before Steve Meredith got by and led the remainder of the event to
the win. Matt Elliott came across 2nd followed by Corey Woods, Paul
Fontanelli, Corey Blume, Tony Johns, Jimmy Klimowicz, Amanda White,
Henderson and Terry Denaway, Jr. Steve Opfer took the lead away and the
win from Jerry Ellinger, Jr. on the final lap of the Thunder "B"
event. Thomas Groning came across 3rd with Robert Grahl and Bubba James
crossing in the top 5.

In earlier events, Dave Mannia set fast time for the Sportsman Late Models
with a 12.645. Keith Carter was the Dash winner with Scott Fairchild,
Chuck Hall and Lou Stremme winning Heats.

Derrick Griffin was fastest in Mini Stocks with a 13.234. The Dash was won
by Jim Cauffman with Heat wins going to Derek Davis and Jim Newman.

This coming Wednesday is an exciting day at the speedway as the USAC
Midgets come into town for a special mid-week event featuring NASCAR
driver, Ryan Newman.

Then on Friday, the Sportsman Late Models, Mini Stocks and Thunder Cars are
back at the 1/4 mile for a Super Show, plus, Kids Nickel Pitch at
intermission. Gates open at 6:00, Time Trials at 7:00 and Racing at 8:00.
