Super Modifieds vs Sprint Cars... YES....

Super Modifieds vs Sprint Cars... YES....

Postby Ron Verash » Mon Feb 24, 2014 10:18 pm

Track: Sandusky, Ohio

Subject: Who is the fastest Winged 410 Sprints or Winged 468 SuperModifieds.

Promoter: Kevin Ruic 440-376-3919

The racetrack, Sandusky Speedway, has been confirmed and the date of the event is scheduled to be Wednesday July 16th.

Sponsorship of the event is already in place and the help has been hired. The purse is generous! The event promotion is ready and will start at the beginning of racing season. The odds of a huge crowd in the grandstands are excellent.

I know it’s the middle of the winter and nobody is really thinking five months ahead so I’ll keep plugging along and as soon as I get some legitimate responses I’ll make it official. Any racer (no fans please) wishing more information can call me at 440-376-3919.

For those that don’t know, this is a 50-lap race for Supermodifieds and Sprint Cars running together. The only rule has to do with the tires. The idea is to be able to compete without going out and buying eight tires for this one race. With that in mind the Supermodifieds will use the MSA tire rule which is the same as all the other tracks running Supers. The Sprints will conform to either the Auto Value and/or Buckeye Super Sprint tire rules.

So let’s make this simple, there will be NO weight rule, no left side rule, no wing rule, no engine rule and the only tech inspection is for safety. Just to ease your minds the purse will be on the property prior to the race and everyone gets paid in cash the night of the event.

This is a Kevin Ruic / FASCAR event and that means everything is run with top shelf officials and on time. We don’t stop to refuel but if the track is going to have a long clean-up we go red. Cautions don’t count and both the starts and re-starts are double file.
That should give you an idea about the event. If you have a car and wish to compete just give me a call.

We won’t have 5000 TV stations airing the show but we do have the number one television station in Cleveland sending a crew for the day.

If you are interested just email donwilshe@biobased.us

Signed up drivers are:

Kyle Edwards - Team Biobased/Edwards 468 Super Modified
Brian Gingras - Team Biobased/Edwards 410Sprint Car

It's BACK TO THE FUTURE with Bio Based USA as they present the one and only Sandusky Speedway King of the Wings Open Wheel Extravaganza on Wednesday, July 16th. This will be the very first major event in many years to feature both the Supermodifieds and Sprint Cars running together. It’s a one-time event showcasing the fastest short track racers in the country. If you miss this one you will miss it forever. Finally the world will know which racecar is the fastest in competition.

We have received several calls with suggestions including an hour long very informative session with a car owner. The concerns were how much to win, what's the purse and let's talk about that tire rule.

The answers are that the winner of this event won't make as much as if he had won the Hi-Miler but it will be more than what an ISMA driver makes at a regular event. Here’s your purse: 1-$5000, 2-$3500, 3-$3000, 4-$2500, 5-$2000, 6-$1500, 7-$1250 and $1000 for 8th place back to 24th place.

The complete purse is rather stout due to the fact that if you make it to the feature you are guaranteed $1000. The only exception would be someone who decides to start and park the minute he gets the green. Remember this if you remember nothing else, unless you are involved in a major accident at the beginning of the race and can't continue you must make at least five competitive laps to get paid anything.

Then there is the tire rule. One racer wanted to run American Racer tires. That answer is NO! The traditional tire for both Sprints and Supers is Hoosier and that isn't changing. The whole idea is to keep costs down and buying eight tires for one race just doesn't cut it. With that in mind there will be a four tire rule. Along with that the Supermodifieds will use the MSA tire rule which is the same as all the other sanctioning bodies running Supers. The Sprints will conform to either the Auto Value and/or Buckeye Super Sprint tire rules.

So let’s make this simple, there will be NO weight rule, no left side rule, no wing rule, no engine rule and the only tech inspection is for safety.

There will be practice on Tuesday evening July 15th with old tires and then qualifying, heat races and a fifty lap Feature Event on Wednesday with four new tires.

There is no fuel stop for a 50-lap race but if a major incident stops the show for a while the race will go red. Remember, any rule made must benefit the Supers and the Sprints equally.

There was a question about show-up money. Yes, not a lot but enough so you don't go home broke. Remember, we pay with cash immediately after the show.

You can call Kevin Ruic at any time at 440-376-3919 to either ask a question or discuss a suggestion.

Here's the latest on the BioBased USA Open Wheel Extravaganza, Just 49 Days Away!
Posted on 5/28/2014 at 11:59:23 PM by Kevin Ruic

Six weeks from now BioBased USA will sponsor an event at Sandusky Speedway that has not taken place since the mid-70’s.

On a Wednesday night, the sixteenth day of the month, during the heat of July there will be one 50-lap race in the entire world featuring Supermodifieds and Sprint Cars racing together and by together we mean just that.

Just think of the magnitude of being at or racing in the only event of its kind being held anywhere with the greatest talent in the sport going for the ultimate record of “Who really is the fastest?”

With racers coming from all parts of the country to find out once and for all who is the quickest in the land while under fire it’s just about impossible to come up with a set of rules that will cover everyone that wants to compete. With this in mind, it has been decided that there will be no rules other than safety and tires.

Since most of these racers run on Hoosiers it will be cost effective to continue using them for this event with a 4-tire rule.

With a practice on Tuesday and the event the following day a good number of racers are using this time as a Prelude to the Hi-Miler making sure their racers are as ready as can be for the big one about ten days later.

On July the 16th 28 competitors will line up on the half mile Sandusky track taking aim at the $5000 first place prize. The total purse is between a low of $36,000 and a high of $38,000 based on the total amount of cars competing. Last place pays $1000 as long as the racer completes five competitive laps. There is no start and park.

Along with this historic race, BioBased USA will be presenting a huge Thrill Show for all the kids. The adults are allowed to watch as long as they cheer as loud as the kids. Performing will be Lauren, The World’s Only Female Human Bomb; The Wall of Fire; The Tower of Flames; an Auto Roll-Over; the nationally famous Elyria Motorcycle Stunt Team and an awesome Fireworks display.

All the gates open at 3pm for open testing and fan seating followed by a Pre-Show that includes an unbelievable display courtesy of North Coast Vintage Oval Racers. Jim Linder’s original wooden winged #3 Sprinter will be there with Jim Linder himself giving autographs, posing for pictures and talking about the days at Sandusky Speedway.

F-1 style qualifying commences at 5pm followed by the preliminary events at 7pm. The Intermission includes down time, race car line-up on the track and infield entertainment with the Motorsports Thrill Show. Then it’s the big one with the 50-lap BioBased USA Open Wheel Extravaganza Feature Event getting under way paced by past champion Jim Linder himself.

What better way is there to wind up an evening of Motorsports entertainment than a full-fledged Fireworks Show choreographed to patriotic music and autographs with the drivers? And you thought you were going to leave the kids at home didn’t you?

Extravaganza Signups just went from 12 to 23 drivers!

We started the marketing of the open wheel extravaganza about 70 days out. Now its getting close to 30 days out and we are seeing drivers show a greater interest in the race. This is not just any race, its really a challenge. Who knows, you might go down in history as the team and driver that won this race. The race might never be repeated so this could be your only chance to make history. Its the Champions vs Champions from the Supermodified and Sprintcar worlds. These drivers really don't like each other. Ask any driver from either class of car and they will tell you they the fastest. When you look at this list of drivers they are outstanding. This race is not for everyone as we will have the best of the best. We are getting calls from around the USA to bring this event to their tracks. Lets get this race done first and see how it goes.

Kevin & Don.

Cancelled. Here is the post received. There’s an old saying that goes something like this, “It’s hard to remember that your main objective was to drain the swamp when you are up to your arss in alligators.”

That’s about how I feel right about now! The original idea was not so much to make money but to show that Supermodifieds can race wheel to wheel with the Sprinters thereby increasing the car count and providing good open wheel racing. Other than that, everything else is smoke and mirrors designed to surround the actual race with excitement and bring in some brand new fans.

We have thrown everything but the kitchen sink at the upcoming BioBased US Open Wheel Extravaganza including Randy Mapus and his North Coast Vintage Oval Racers featuring none other than Jim Linder and his original #3 with the wooden wing; a huge FASCAR Motorsports Thrill Show featuring Lauren Hofmann the world’s only female human bomb (that can do it more than once); a stellar Fireworks Show shot to music and of course THE RACE!

The race is designed to bring the top names in both Supermodified racing and Sprint Car racing together on the same track at the same time competing for a $5000 winner’s purse with a $1000 to start teaser. The exact payoff is $5000-3500-3000-2500-2000-1500-1250 and $1000 to every position past that. The only stipulation is that the tires must be Hoosiers and follow the rules of the MSA and the AVSS. Other than that you are on your own.

Thanks go to Don Wilshe from BioBased and his PR department. We have been in upwards of 150 different media outlets in the last six months including Speed Sport and all the major Blogs. Pretty much everyone in the open wheel racing industry is aware of this huge event.

AND THEN the other shoe dropped! We will have a very good selection of Supermodifieds on hand with a tremendous backing from the MSA racers including but not limited to Dave Shullick Jr, Tim Jedrzejek, Jon Henes, Brandon Fisher, Charlie Schultz, Danny Shirey, Dave McKnight, Denny Fisher, Jim Paller, Kevin Jaycox Jr, Kyle Edwards, Matt Marlowe, Mike McVetta and Rich Reid. This means that some of the fastest Supers in the world will be competing for the top prize and bragging rights.

Too bad the same is not true from the world of Sprint Cars. Yes, we will be playing host to the Gold Standard of Sprint Car racing just not a lot of them. Read this line-up; Aron Pierce, Brian Gingras, Davey Hamilton (both Sr. & Jr.), JoJo Helberg, Frank Neill, Mike Linder (who’s setting up a car just for this race), Todd Fayard, Tom Tolbert and Brian Gibbs. Like they say in the cartoons, “where did you find those guys?” We couldn’t be happier but we need a level playing field at the start of the race and that means an equal number of cars from both camps. There is a proposal on the table to run a 20-car Feature Event for 50 laps comprised of the ten fastest cars from each division. This really isn’t that fair but let me send you back to the top of the post. The idea is to run both divisions together in an attempt to increase the car count and a large majority of Supers racing a few Sprinters just ain’t gonna cut it.

If you have a better mousetrap now’s the time to put it on the table, not the day of the race. I’m happy to talk to each and every one of you. Call Kevin Ruic at 440-376-3919.
